EMBODIED GUIDE

An immersive, in person somatic training for therapists and wellness professionals who understand the nervous system, but want to feel more embodied in the work they are already doing.

The Embodied Guide Somatic Training

You know the language.

Regulation. Resourcing. Coregulation. Safety. Sensation. Presence.

You may already talk to your clients about their nervous systems every day.

But when was the last time you felt your own?

The Embodied Guide is for practitioners who are ready to move beyond knowing somatic concepts intellectually and begin experiencing what it means to actually practice from an embodied place.

Because somatic work is not simply a collection of techniques you use with another person.

It is how you listen.

How you notice.

How you respond.

How you stay connected to yourself while remaining deeply attuned to the person in front of you.

And ultimately, how your own embodied presence becomes part of the healing relationship which provides you with a rare and highly valuable skill that only you can provide.

3 ways to deepen your somatic facilitation skills

YOU KNOW HOW TO HOLD SPACE FOR EVERYONE ELSE

But who holds space for you?

As a therapist or wellness professional, you've spent your career learning how to care for other people.

You listen

You track

You notice

You regulate your reactions

You stay present with pain

You hold space all day

But somewhere along the way, it can become surprisingly easy to lose contact with your own body.

Maybe you know nervous system theory inside and out, but you still find yourself thinking your way through sessions.

Maybe you have learned somatic tools, but using them can feel like adding another intervention to an already crowded toolbox.

Maybe you can see that something is happening in your client's body, but you are not always sure how to meet it without analyzing it, directing it, or trying to change it.

Or maybe you simply sense that there is another layer to this work.

There is.

The next step is not necessarily learning more techniques.

It is learning how to become embodied in the work yourself.

Yoga Relaxation Pose

SOMATIC WORK IS NOT SOMETHING YOU DO TO A CLIENT.

It is a way of being with them.

The Embodied Guide teaches a way of facilitating that begins with your own nervous system.

Instead of constantly asking yourself what technique you should use next, you learn to slow down enough to notice what is actually happening.

In your client.

In yourself.

And in the space between you.

You learn to listen with your body more than your mind.

You learn to recognize shifts in activation, settling, movement, breath, connection, impulse, resistance, and rest.

And you learn to trust that healing does not always need to be forced into existence.

Sometimes our job is to create the conditions that allow what is already trying to happen to emerge.

THE BODY ALREADY KNOWS SOMETHING THE MIND MAY NOT

One of the foundational influences of this training comes from Somatic Experiencing and the understanding that trauma is not simply held in the story of what happened.

Trauma can be understood through what happened within the nervous system and what was unable to complete.

When the nervous system loses its flexibility, we can become organized around patterns of activation, protection, collapse, vigilance, or disconnection.

Health is not a nervous system that is calm all the time.

Health is flexibility.

It is the capacity to mobilize when life requires energy and return toward rest when the moment has passed.

It is the organic rhythm between alertness and restoration.

Through somatic movement, restorative yoga, nervous system awareness, breath, and embodied exploration, you will learn ways to support that flexibility without forcing the body into a particular state.

We are not trying to make the nervous system calm.

We are supporting its capacity to move.

WE ARE NOT ONLY LOOKING FOR WHAT IS WRONG.

We are learning to recognize the health that is already there.

The Embodied Guide is also deeply influenced by Biodynamic Craniosacral Therapy and its orientation toward inherent health.

Instead of approaching the person in front of us as a collection of problems that need to be fixed, we learn to orient toward the intelligence and health that already exist within them.

When we become quiet enough to perceive that health, something changes.

We stop chasing symptoms.

We stop assuming we know where the body needs to go.

We become curious about what is already trying to emerge.

And when that health is met with attention, presence, and enough space, it can begin to move into the foreground.

YOUR PRESENCE IS PART OF THE WORK.

Coregulation is not simply a concept we teach our clients.

It is something we participate in.

Your nervous system enters the room with you.

Your pace matters.

Your breath matters.

Your capacity to stay present matters.

Your ability to remain connected to yourself while another person experiences activation matters.

Your ability to tolerate not knowing matters.

Relational safety is created through thousands of subtle moments of attunement.

When you learn to facilitate from an embodied, present, and attuned place, the relationship itself can become part of the healing process.

This training helps you develop that capacity through experience, not simply through lecture.

YOU WILL EXPERIENCE THE WORK YOU ARE LEARNING TO FACILITATE

You cannot learn embodiment entirely from a book, a webinar, or a nervous system diagram.

Your body has to be part of the education

That is why the heart of The Embodied Guide happens in person.

Across three immersive 6 day modules, you will have the opportunity to slow down and actually experience your own nervous system.

You will move.

You will rest.

You will breathe.

You will notice.

You will practice listening.

You will experience being witnessed and witnessing others.

You will explore activation and settling.

You will practice staying connected to yourself in relationship.

You will learn what presence feels like rather than simply talking about it.

Because the more intimately you know your own nervous system, the more capacity you develop to sit beside someone else's.

WHAT YOU WILL LEARN

Embodied Facilitation

Move beyond performing techniques and learn to facilitate from presence, curiosity, attunement, and connection.

Restorative Yoga

Learn to use supported postures, stillness, sensation, and rest as therapeutic tools for nervous system health rather than simply as relaxation practices.

Coregulation & Relational Safety

Explore how your own nervous system influences the therapeutic space and develop greater capacity to remain connected to yourself while attuning to another person.

Nervous System Health

Understand trauma and healing through the lens of nervous system flexibility, including activation, settling, fixation, protective responses, and the restoration of organic rhythm.

Breath for Regulation

Explore breath as a way of supporting awareness, regulation, and nervous system flexibility.

The emphasis in this training is not cathartic release.

We work with the breath in ways that respect capacity, pacing, and the intelligence of the nervous system.

Experiential Anatomy

Learn the body from the inside out through movement, sensation, touch awareness, structure, and lived experience.

Somatic Movement

Use intuitive and intentional movement to support nervous system completion, expression, mobilization, embodiment, and regulation.

Presence & Listening

Develop the ability to listen beyond words and become more aware of the subtle information communicated through breath, movement, posture, sensation, pacing, energy, and relationship.

Group & Individual Facilitation

Learn to translate these principles into individual sessions, therapeutic environments, wellness settings, classes, workshops, and group experiences.

THIS IS NOT ABOUT COLLECTING MORE TOOLS
It is about changing the place you facilitate from

By the end of this training, our goal is not for you to leave with a binder full of techniques you are trying to remember.

We want you to notice that something about the way you practice has changed.

You listen differently.

You notice more.

You rush less.

You trust the body more.

You can recognize activation without immediately trying to eliminate it.

You understand rest as more than relaxation.

You can use movement without turning it into exercise.

You can be with uncertainty without immediately searching for an intervention.

You recognize your own nervous system as an important source of information.

And instead of thinking about how to be somatic with your clients, you begin to practice as a somatic practitioner.

Who this training is for

The Embodied Guide was created for wellness professionals and therapists who want to deepen the somatic dimension of the work they are already doing.

This may include:

  • Therapists and counselors

  • Massage therapists and bodyworkers

  • Yoga teachers and yoga therapists

  • Naturopathic and integrative healthcare professionals

  • Nurses and physicians

  • Acupuncturists

  • Coaches

  • Energy practitioners

  • Healing arts professionals

And practitioners who already understand nervous system and somatic concepts but want those concepts to become lived, embodied skills.

You do not need to abandon the work you already do. The purpose of this training is to help you bring greater embodiment, nervous system awareness, relational attunement, and presence into it.

ESPECIALLY FOR THE PRACTITIONER WHO...

  • Knows a lot about the nervous system but still lives primarily in their head.

  • Has taken somatic trainings but sometimes feels like they are performing somatic techniques rather than practicing somatically.

  • Can recognize what is happening in a client but is not always sure what to do next.

  • Wants to work more experientially without pushing clients into catharsis.

  • Is tired of believing they need another technique before they are ready.

  • Wants to feel more confident facilitating movement, rest, breath, and embodied awareness.

  • Holds space for people all day and realizes they need spaces where their own nervous system gets to be held too.

  • Wants their professional development to include their own healing, embodiment, and growth.

A TRAINING BUILT FROM YEARS OF PRACTICE

The Embodied Guide was developed by Jessica Garay through years of teaching, facilitating, studying, and practicing somatic healing.

Jessica began teaching yoga in 2009 and has trained hundreds of yoga teachers and somatic practitioners since beginning professional teacher trainings in 2015.

Her work integrates influences from Somatic Experiencing, Biodynamic Craniosacral Therapy, restorative yoga, yoga therapy, Polarity Therapy, somatic movement, nervous system education, relational healing, breathwork, and embodied facilitation.

Over the years, one thing became increasingly clear:

Knowing about the body is not the same as knowing how to practice from the body.

The Embodied Guide grew from that distinction.

It is a system of somatic healing and embodied facilitation designed to help practitioners support nervous system health through movement, restorative yoga, breath, presence, relationship, and the practitioner's own embodied awareness.

THE TRAINING FORMAT

Three Immersive 6-day Modeles

This training takes place in person in Portland, Oregon.

Rather than spreading experiential learning across short weekends, the three module structure gives us time to move beyond simply understanding the material.

You have time to arrive.

Time to practice.

Time to experience.

Time to integrate.

Time to notice your own patterns.

And time to return to the work again with greater awareness.

The space between modules gives you an opportunity to bring what you are learning into your existing work and return with real experiences, questions, and discoveries.

This is not simply education about embodiment.

The training itself is an embodied experience.

OPTIONAL YOGA ALLIANCE PATHWAY

Students who would also like to become registered yoga teachers may complete the additional coursework required for eligibility to register at the 200 hour level with Yoga Alliance.

This pathway includes online coursework in anatomy, teaching methodology, and business fundamentals in addition to the in person Embodied Guide curriculum.

The Yoga Alliance pathway is optional.

The heart of The Embodied Guide is professional somatic education and embodied facilitation.

YOU PROBABLY DO NOT NEED ANOTHER NERVOUS SYSTEM CHART

You may not need another list of regulation tools either.

You may need the opportunity to experience what you have spent years helping other people understand.

To feel your own activation.

To recognize your own settling.

To discover what happens when you stop trying to facilitate perfectly and start listening.

To experience being supported instead of always being the person providing the support.

And to discover what becomes possible in your work when somatic practice stops being something you know and becomes something you embody.

You already know how to help people
